Nigerian Doctor Planning To Relocate To The UK Slumps And D!es After Being On Duty For 72-Hours

A young resident doctor at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Dr. Femi Rotiifah, collapsed and d!ed after working non-stop for 72 hours.

According to reports, Rotifa had been on continuous call duty for three days in the Emergency Room before retreating to the call room to rest where he slumped and di!Ed. Efforts to resuscitate him failed as he was confirmed de@d by his colleagues.

Confirming the incident, the President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, Dr. Tope Osundara, said: “What happened is that he was on call in the Emergency Room. Afterward, he went to the call room to rest, and it was there that he died.

"Unfortunately, he was the only one attending to the patient. The overuse of manpower strained his health and led to this painful death. It was a death on duty.” 

The deceased was a former President of the Port Harcourt University Medical Students’ Association (PUMSA) and was registered with the UK’s General Medical Council, awaiting placement abroad.

Meanwhile his friend and fellow medical doctors have taken to social media to mourn him.
