Jimi Benson, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, has explained why financiers of terrorism cannot be tried in public.
He explained that a lot of the financiers have been under scrutiny for a very long time now.
The lawmaker made the disclosure during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.
According to him, the government was doing everything around the clock to tackle the wave of insecurity in the country.
He stated that some of the financiers are local, while others are foreign; however, the government cannot disclose their identities due to security reasons.
He said, “The financiers of terrorists in Nigeria cannot be tried in public, a lot of them are under scrutiny for a very long time now.
“By scrutiny, I mean tried and identified. Some of them are local, and some are international. The government has done a lot in recent times. The public cannot know who they are because of security.
“A lot of them can’t think of financing anybody anymore. I can assure you that work is in progress. A responsible government will deal with these people at the appropriate time.
“The government is working; the tracking and the trying of these people. And there’s a lot of international help as well to bring these people to book.”
