Asaba - Senator Ned Nwoko stated on Friday that although the 2027 election for the Delta North Senatorial seat may be open to all candidates, he is certain to win and keep the seat in the 11th Assembly thanks to his management and the support of the Anioma people.
Sen. Nwoko, accompanied by former Deputy Senate President Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, announced his candidacy for reelection as soon as he arrived at the airport in Asaba, highlighting the Anioma people's determination to reject "olden days politics."
In his self-evaluation, Nwoko stated that he had done a good job of serving his people by advocating for Anioma on all fronts and that it was only right to stay in office to deal with the issues facing the populace.
He told newsmen, “I want to announce publicly that I am returning to the 11th Senate on behalf of the Anioma people, Delta North.
“I’ve done what we were meant to do. I’ve done well as a Senator, taken up Anioma cause at every level and spoken fearlessly onbehalf of the People. “I stand for the people all the time. The people of Anioma know who I am and I know their problems. These are things I’ve been addressing.”
On the quest for Anioma state, Nwoko said, “You heard the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, when he was here last month. He made a public announcement and I stand with that.
“Anioma state would be created with capital in Asaba and there will be Delta state with capital wherever they want it. And you can see I’m here with the former Deputy Senate President, Sen Omo-Agege.”
On how well he enjoys President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support, the Delta North Senator affirmed, “The President is my President. Because I had faith in him, I joined him before anybody else. On a national level, he is performing admirably. We are cooperating on all fronts, and he will be reelected.
Nwoko stated, "It's a contest," regarding his chances of winning reelection. Everyone is welcome to compete. Thus, we're prepared. And we'll see.
"Remain steadfast," the senator told his supporters who flocked to the Asaba Airport to greet him. This is not the time to return to the politics of the past. It's time for them to expand on what I've done, which is to work for people and comprehend their needs.
For instance, I've been advocating for the Okpai Power Plant's power stepdown. Anioma Land has to have light. We need water. It is necessary to finish Ogwashi-Ukwu Dam rather than merely drilling boreholes everywhere.
"We need to build the Coastal Road from Koko, Asaba, to Aboh and Patani, South of Delta.
The Federal College, Technical is the university located here in Asaba. Are you aware that we have made every effort to upgrade it to a university? These are some of my personal perspectives on empowering our people. I attend Delta's Sports University. Scholarships account for half of the student body.
"You talk about empowerment, but I can't have 500 students on scholarships. That is the best form of empowerment you can give to the people.”
Nwoko and Omo-Agege proceeded from the airport to Obio to grace the funeral of former Delta State Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue who was being lay to rest.
