An All Progressives Congress aspirant for the Share/Oke-Ode State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Abdulrasheed Akogun, has attributed the increasing number of aspirants seeking the party's ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections to the strong leadership and widespread popularity of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Akogun made this known on Monday after taking part in the APC screening exercise for House of Assembly aspirants held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
He commended the screening committee for conducting what he described as a smooth, transparent, and credible process, expressing satisfaction with the overall conduct of the exercise.
He observed that the large number of politicians seeking to fly the APC flag across various constituencies is a clear indication of the confidence that stakeholders and political actors have in the ruling party in Kwara State.
He linked this directly to the performance and leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq, crediting him with repositioning the APC as the dominant political force in the state and making the party's platform appealing to a broad cross-section of people with political ambitions.
Akogun also disclosed that no fewer than 158 aspirants are currently competing for the party's tickets across the 24 state constituencies in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akogun reiterated that the high number of aspirants vying for the party's ticket is a direct reflection of the APC's growing appeal, noting that "158 aspirants are bidding to fly the flag of the party in the 24 state constituencies available."
The aspirant, who served as Director of Media and Publicity for the AbdulRazaq Campaign Organisation during the 2019 governorship election, also expressed strong confidence in the APC's prospects heading into the 2027 polls.
He declared that the opposition in Kwara State had become politically irrelevant, asserting that "whoever gets the ticket of the party is already 80 per cent completed."
Speaking on his personal ambition to represent the Share/Oke-Ode constituency, Akogun said his years of active political engagement and consistent grassroots presence across the constituency have placed him in a strong position ahead of the primary.
He expressed optimism that "the enthusiasm is high" that he will secure the backing of stakeholders, party members, and the party leadership to fly the APC flag, which he believes would pave the way for a smooth outing at the general election.
The APC continues to advance its preparations for the 2027 general elections across various states, with party stakeholders expressing confidence in maintaining political dominance in key states, including Kwara.
