Popular activist and social commentator Justice Chidiebere, widely known as JusticeCrack, has claimed that operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) were behind his abduction, alleging they posed as Department of State Services (DSS) officers during his arrest.
The activist made the allegation in a social media post on Tuesday, also decrying what he described as cruel and degrading treatment throughout his time in detention.
He claimed to have been blindfolded and handcuffed for three consecutive days exposed to intense heat during the day and confined to a freezing room at night.
He further alleged that public pressure from Nigerians demanding to know his whereabouts was what prevented him from vanishing entirely, suggesting that without that outcry, he might never have been seen again.
He noted that he was constrained in sharing full details since the matter remains before a court of law.
In his words, he maintained that the DIA took him to the Criminal Investigation Command (CIC), and that he only learned of their involvement after being transferred to DSS custody, where it was disclosed to him.
Online reports indicate that Chidiebere's troubles began in late April 2026 when his family reported him missing after he dropped his child off at school in Abuja.
Following widespread public concern and accusations of enforced disappearance, the Nigerian Army confirmed on May 2 that he was in military custody.
Authorities said his arrest was linked to viral videos and social media posts featuring soldiers complaining about poor welfare and inadequate feeding content the military described as subversive and capable of inciting its personnel.
He was subsequently handed over to civilian authorities and arraigned by the DSS before the Federal High Court in Abuja on three charges relating to cybercrime and conduct likely to disturb public peace.
On May 18, 2026, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted him bail of ₦5 million, having previously been held in DSS custody.
