Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, has received clearance from the National Universities Commission to begin running 33 postgraduate programmes starting from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The clearance came after the institution went through a resource verification process carried out by the NUC, with the outcome communicated via a letter dated June 15, 2026, signed by the commission's Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei.
The newly cleared programmes span several disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, management sciences, education, natural sciences, environmental sciences, as well as communication and technology.
Courses given the go-ahead include Postgraduate Diploma, Master's, and PhD programmes in fields such as Accounting, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Architecture, Music, Theatre Arts, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Economics, Political Science, International Relations, Microbiology, Physics, and Food Science and Technology.
Speaking on the development, the institution's Vice-Chancellor, Prof Andrew Omojola, described it as a significant step forward in the university's academic growth.
According to Omojola, the approval represents a landmark achievement in the university's drive to position itself as a leading hub for postgraduate education, research, and innovation.
He pointed out that this achievement was a reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by the university's management, staff, and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the NUC's resource verification process.
"The approval is a testament to the confidence reposed in the university by the National Universities Commission and an affirmation of BOUESTI's readiness to provide quality postgraduate education that meets global standards," he stated.
The vice-chancellor further extended his gratitude to the university's Visitor and Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, as well as the governing council, Senate, staff, and other stakeholders, for their continued support of the institution's growth.
He gave assurances to prospective students and the wider public that the university would remain committed to providing quality teaching, conducting impactful research, and engaging in community service through its postgraduate offerings.
He explained that the rollout of the programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session would open up avenues for advanced learning, capacity building, and research, while also contributing to the nation's overall development.
"The commencement of the programmes will create new opportunities for advanced learning, capacity building and cutting-edge research, while contributing significantly to national development and addressing contemporary societal challenges," Omojola added.
