The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Kaduna State University has issued a fourteen-day deadline to institutional leadership and relevant authorities to enforce the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU pact, citing the departure of more than 200 academic personnel from the university.

The union's chair indicated that the agreement, which outlines enhanced compensation and employment terms for university lecturers, became effective in January 2026 yet remains unimplemented at the institution.

Despite eight months having elapsed since the agreement's signature, the university has not commenced its operationalisation.

The union has submitted multiple communications to institutional management, the Governing Council and the state governor requesting that the agreement be formally adopted and applied in accordance with the university's founding legislation.

The union warned that non-compliance within the stipulated timeframe could precipitate an all-encompassing and indefinite strike action.

The lack of implementation has resulted in KASU academic staff earning among the nation's lowest university salaries, a departure from the institution's established priority regarding employee welfare.

The union expressed alarm at the continued departure of seasoned academics, noting that over 200 lecturers, encompassing professors, associate professors, doctorate holders and senior personnel, have relocated to universities within and beyond the state.

The loss of such expertise could require years for institutional recovery.

Outstanding grievances beyond the federal agreement include matters of institutional autonomy, excessive teaching responsibilities, stalled career advancement, bereavement provisions, group health insurance participation, outstanding wage increments at specified percentages, and pension fund transfers.

The union demanded complete adoption of the 2025 pact, settlement of accumulated salary deficits dating to January 2026, and material advancement in remuneration and working circumstances for academic employees.

It additionally called for urgent intervention to stem ongoing staff departures, particularly among senior researchers and professors.

The union indicated that resolution would facilitate personnel retention and restore confidence among academics otherwise inclined toward outside employment.

It said engagement with multiple stakeholders both within and outside the state had been pursued to reach peaceful resolution and avert workplace disruption.
