Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, says he is a billionaire when you measure his wealth in naira, but not in US dollars.
The former Anambra State governor made the clarification while responding to questions on a podcast during his time in the US.
He acknowledged that dollars is the global standard used to determine billionaire status, but pointed out that his wealth qualifies as billionaire level when calculated in naira.
Obi explained that internationally, billionaires are measured by their dollar wealth, which is the accepted benchmark.
However, in naira terms, he said, he does hold billionaire status.
He is currently in the US attending campaign activities for the 2027 presidential elections.
“Yes I’m a billionaire in Naira, capital yes. However not in dollars. But I’m a billionaire in Naira” - Peter Obi.

It always amazes me when I see people get carried away because PeterObi chooses to live a frugal humble life then they assume he’s not rich. pic.twitter.com/udQZMXqo59
