Bauchi Police Boss Warns Officers Against Mistreating Nigerians

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police has declared that officers are paid to serve Nigerians and not exploit them.

CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu made the statement after a tour of all police area commands across the state.

He urged officers to maintain professionalism, discipline and respect for citizens' rights.

During a visit to the Metro Area Command in Bauchi metropolis, he told personnel that police are employed to protect people, not torment them.

He warned against arbitrary arrest, extortion, keeping suspects locked up too long, torture and taking sides during elections.

Aliyu stressed that officers must stay disciplined, arrive on time, be courteous and respond quickly to distress calls.

He said they should also keep their appearance and work areas clean and organised.

He told officers that public trust and professionalism are the foundation of good policing.

He said they must conduct themselves in ways that make people have confidence in the police.

On security in Bauchi town, Aliyu directed police leadership to gather more intelligence, keep visible on the streets and work closer with other security agencies and residents.

This collaboration is needed to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery and other crime through Operation Velvet.

The commissioner inspected facilities, praised officers for keeping things clean and tidy, and listened to their concerns about work and welfare.

He promised to address the issues they raised.

He thanked personnel for their commitment and asked residents to keep supporting police and other security agencies in efforts to make Bauchi safer.
