Young Man Shot by Police After Fight Near Oyun Bridge in Ilorin

A young man was reportedly sh0t by police officers near Oyun Bridge in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday afternoon following an alleged fight between officers and a group of young men believed to be students.

A video showed the unconscious young man being carried by police and put inside a police van shortly after the sh00ting.

The incident happened along the Oyun Bridge-Fate Roundabout area, a place where residents have repeatedly raised concerns about alleged h@rassment of young people by security workers.

A resident said the incident started as a fight between police officers who regularly patrol the area and some young men believed to be students of Kwara State Polytechnic.

The resident said police always h@rass these students and other young people and wrongly tag them as fr@udsters.

Police use that to extort these students and many always run away from them.

The resident said there is no time you pass through this community without witnessing some form of h@rassment from these police officers.

He said police were trying to extort these young guys in their usual way and things escalated and he was sh0t.

In the video, an eyewitness could be heard screaming as the injured man lay on the ground.

The witness said the innocent man was sh0t by the police.

The footage showed several police officers surrounding the man before carrying his unconscious body into their van.

The officers drove away from the scene with witnesses saying the young man was being taken for medical attention.

It is unclear if the man d+ed or if he survived, but he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The Kwara State Police Command Spokesman has not responded to requests for comment on the sh00ting and the circumstances around the incident.
