Harvey Weinstein Gets 15 Years in Prison After New York Conviction

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a television production assistant in New York in 2006.

The 74-year-old former Hollywood producer maintained his innocence while asking the judge for leniency.

However, the court found him guilty of assaulting Miriam Haley, a former production assistant.

Haley spoke in court before sentencing, describing the profound damage the assault inflicted on her life and sense of safety.

She said pursuing justice over the years brought ongoing fear and public scrutiny, calling it a life sentence for her.

Weinstein expressed regret for Haley's suffering but insisted he did not commit the offense.

The sentence comes after a retrial following the overturning of his original 23-year New York sentence by the state's highest court in 2024.

At the retrial, he was convicted over the assault involving Haley but acquitted of a separate charge involving another woman.

Jurors could not reach agreement on a rape charge involving a third woman.

Weinstein faces an additional 16-year sentence in California from a separate rape conviction.
