The Nigeria Customs Service's Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, wants closer cooperation with the police and other security agencies to fight smuggling and cross-border crime.
Acting Comptroller Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Olukayode Afeni made the call during a visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
The visit began on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Afeni said crime often rises as elections approach, and some people may try to use that period to cause trouble.
He said no agency can tackle crime alone and that intelligence sharing and joint operations are essential.
Lagos Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai welcomed the visit. He said the police have a strong working relationship with other security agencies in the state.
The delegation also visited the State Services, the 81 Division of the Army, NDLEA Strategic Command, the Immigration Service and 9 Brigade in Ikeja.
During the visit to the 81 Division, General Officer Commanding Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola stressed the value of joint efforts and warned against unnecessary red tape.
