A beauty salon owner is fighting for her life after a botched breast procedure. According to a statement of police facts tendered in court today, she is likely not to survive.

“She is currently in a critical condition and may not survive and if she does survive it is anticipated she will have some degree of brain damage,” the document said.

According to DailyTelegraph, emergency services were called to The Medi Beauty clinic in Chippendale yesterday after the salon’s 35-year-old director Jean Huang went into cardiac arrest about 3.30pm.

Redfern detectives charged 33-year-old Chinese woman Jei Shao with reckless grievous bodily harm and using poison so as to endanger life. According to the police statement Shao knew Ms Huang through a mutual friend and the pair agreed Shao would inject fillers into Ms Huang’s breasts.

Police allege Shao then injected the fillers into Ms Huang’s breasts and “a short time later Ms Huang went into cardiac arrest and CPR was commenced by the accused” with the help of two employees.

“Ms Huang was completely unresponsive and remained so for some time.”

Paramedics tried to revive Ms Huang but were unsuccessful. Doctors at RPA managed to revive her. Police alleged Shao admitted administering the anaesthetic and the “diane” breast fillers but denied administering the tramadol. The accused volunteered to accompany police to Redfern police station with another employee and give a statement.

She allegedly admitted not being a licensed medical practitioner. Shao faced Central Local Court via video link from Surry Hills Police Centre where she was denied bail. Police said Shao had plane tickets booked to fly back to China today they were uncertain when she made the booking.

Prosecutor Rutzou said Shao had admitted to administering anaesthetic during a police interview, meaning the prosecution case was strong.

“It’s clear she was working at a cosmetic surgery where these sorts of procedures were carried out,” Mr Rutzou said.

“She is not a licensed medical practitioner in NSW or anywhere in Australia.

“If (the victim) does not survive there will be more serious charges laid.”

He argued Shao was a risk of performing more dangerous procedures if released.

Shao’s lawyer Mary Underwood said her client was a university graduate specialising in dermatology and had practised in China and the UK.

Ms Huang helped start the chain of anti-ageing clinics in Box Hill, Victoria in January 2015 and remains its sole director, with further branches in Dandenong and Melbourne.
