The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli, has welcomed the proposed 100 percent increase in salaries and allowances for traditional rulers in Kaduna State.

Speaking at his palace in Zaria on Friday, the Emir described the planned raise as a much-needed relief.

He noted that the current pay for traditional leaders is no longer enough to meet daily needs due to the rising cost of living and the falling value of the naira.

He explained that the state governor, Uba Sani, and the Ministry for Local Government Affairs have been working on the salary adjustment for about seven months.

Emir Bamalli thanked the state government for supporting the traditional institution and highlighted the important role royal fathers play in society.

He revealed that over the past two years, the Zazzau Emirate has resolved more than 2,000 civil disputes including land, family, and inheritance matters through peaceful mediation, helping to ease the workload on regular courts.

He added that the peace enjoyed in the area is due to a inclusive approach that actively involves different ethnic and religious leaders in community affairs.
