See How Much FG Will Spend on Independence Day Celebration

Posted by Lolade on Wed 23rd Sep, 2015 - tori.ng

As October 1 draws near, the Federal Government has allocated funds for the celebration of the country's 55th Independence anniversary.

The federal government on Tuesday, September 22, declared that the country's 55th Independence anniversary would be celebrated in a low tone following the hasrh economic realities.

As such, President Muhammadu Buhari approved N70million to be spent in organizing the anniversary.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir David Lawal, made this known when he briefed reporters in his Abuja office.

The SGF spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Political Matters Office, Mrs. Ibukun Odusote.

According to the SGF, due to the state of the nation’s finance, this year’s anniversary must be low-key.

“This year’s celebration is indeed low-key. This is because the present administration appreciates the economic hardship that Nigerians and, indeed, the nation is confronted with today.

“To address the situation, government has adopted a general policy to be very prudent in the management of our financial resources. This year’s celebration is, therefore, in consonance with the cost-saving policy direction of this administration.

“As we look forward to our anniversary with a deep and sober reflection, on how we can work together to return our country to prosperity, let me seize this opportunity to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in particular and indeed Nigerians, a happy Sallah holidays,” Lawal said.
