Fuel Queues Resurfaces in Abuja

Posted by Thandiubani on Wed 14th Oct, 2015 - tori.ng

Fuel queues resurfaced yesterday in Abuja as a result of panic buying. Many motorists were seen waiting on long queues to buy fuel in some filling stations in Abuja and its environs.

Even after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) called on members of the public to avoid panic buying of petrol as there was enough stock of the product, fuel queues have reappeared in some filling stations in the central districts of Abuja on Tuesday.

The panic buy as many call was because many of the filling stations in the area refused to dispense fuel to motorists. Some motorists said Total Station located in Area 11 and Oando at Central Area by National Hospital refused to sell to people until afternoon which made many queue up in anticipation.

A few of the filling stations did not have queues but some said queues started building up in the afternoon. Motorists expressed delight that some filling stations like NNPC Super-Mega stations at Kubwa Expressway was dispensing as at when due and there was no queue.

It will be recalled that NNPC had warned people to stop panic buying as it has enough fuel to go round. The corporation also debunked rumours of impending reduction in price of fuel form N87 to N54 per litre as being spread in the media.

It explained, in a statement, that besides the recent meeting of the Management of the Corporation with members of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) to rally them for the uninterrupted fuel supply policy of the administration, it has set up a monitoring team at the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) to check sharp practices that could breach the distribution and supply system.

It put the quantity of petrol stock in its depots across the country at 927,461,000 litres which is enough to serve the country for the next 23 days if no drop of the product is imported within the period.
