According to a report by Reuters, more than 30 people are feared trapped after a mine explosion which injured two people in Germany today.

The blast at the former potash mine this morning left dozens of workers stuck more than 2,000 feet underground.

Rescuers and firefighters are now battling to bring them back to the surface via a mine shaft that survived the explosion in the town of Teutschenthal.

The trapped workers were being supplied with oxygen in secure areas underground, the state mining authority in Saxony-Anhalt told news agency dpa.

The facility is a former potash mine where mineral waste is now stored.

Teutschenthal is a town near Halle in eastern Germany, around 95 miles from Berlin.
