Nigeria has recorded 14 new cases of Lassa fever, bringing the total number of infections to 1,035.

The disease control agency said the cases were confirmed between August 10 and 16 in Bauchi, Benue, Ondo and Edo states.

The outbreak has killed 252 people so far.

The death rate among those infected has climbed to 24.4 percent, which is higher than the 18.6 percent rate seen in 2025.

This shows the disease is becoming more dangerous.

The 14 new cases represent a jump from just four cases reported in the previous week.

Two weeks before that, there were 17 cases, indicating the numbers are jumping around and not following a steady pattern.

So far, 23 states have reported at least one case of Lassa fever across 117 local government areas.

The disease control agency is continuing to watch for new cases and work to control the outbreak across affected states.
