The National Biosafety Management Agency wants Nigerians to stay calm and alert after an imported Ebola case was confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement on Wednesday, Director General Dr Fatima Suleiman Zuntu said the agency is ready to help the national response with its biosafety and biosecurity skills.

She praised the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and other partners for their work so far.

She reminded Nigerians that the country beat Ebola in 2014 and said that success came from good preparation and people following safety rules.

She urged everyone to wash their hands often and avoid contact with the body fluids of sick people.

She also said people should not handle the bodies of suspected Ebola victims and should not share news that has not been checked.

Anyone with symptoms, especially after contact with a suspected case or a trip to an affected area, should seek advice from health authorities quickly.

To check facts or report a suspected case, call the NCDC toll free line on 6232 or the NBMA on 0808 225 4683.
