One Ayo Maliki is said to be on the run after his girlfriend, Faderera Oloyede, died in his room in Iree, Osun State, The PUNCH reports.

The deceased reportedly died on Tuesday shortly after a meal of rice.

Faderera, a student of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, was said to have arrived Ayo’s residence in the Koko area of Iree on Monday in company with her friend, Adekemi Adewumi.

They were said to have passed the night in the apartment and ate rice provided by their host around noon on Tuesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Yemisi Opalola, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that the incident was reported to the police on Tuesday by a resident of Koko, who said a corpse was discovered in one of the houses in the area.

Opalola said when the scene was visited, the lifeless body of 21-year-old Faderera was recovered.

She stated, “The deceased’s friend, Adekemi Adewumi, has been arrested, but their host, Ayo Maliki, who is said to be Faderera’s boyfriend, is at large. The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department is investigating the matter.

“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital’s morgue in Osogbo for an autopsy.”

Residents of the Koko area were divided on the studentship of Ayo.

While some said he was just a resident and not a student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, others said Ayo was probably a student of the institution.

But the management of the institution said Ayo was not its student.

The Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Mr Tope Abiola, said, “We have gone through our records and we could not find his name.

“We checked our portal and other relevant documents and we could not find his name. Most importantly, no student of the polytechnic is around now.

“They have been sent home because of the government order that all academic institutions should be shut to prevent the spread of coronavirus.”
