The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, is marking 30 years of work to keep Lagos clean, safe and healthy.

The agency says it is committed to fighting pollution, controlling it and managing the environment in a sustainable way.

Dr Omobolaji Tajudeen Gaji, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services, made the point at a press conference for the anniversary.

He shared the update on their account on Thursday.

He praised LASEPA for its work on noise and air pollution, which he said has helped raise environmental standards across the state.

He urged residents and business owners to follow environmental rules every day, rather than waiting for enforcement or warning notices.

Environmental compliance should not be driven solely by enforcement, he said.

LASEPA's General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, called the anniversary a major milestone.

He said the agency has made good progress over three decades.

This includes stronger rules, better pollution monitoring and more capacity to deal with new challenges.

Ajayi said the agency's main work covers noise control, air quality, industrial pollution checks and enforcement.

He said LASEPA has changed its methods to keep up with Lagos's fast growth and rising population.

He pointed to a new online portal where residents can report environmental violations and track their complaints.

He said the portal makes reporting easier and quicker.

Ajayi also said the agency is involved in Nigeria's carbon market and climate projects.

He added that its government owned laboratory helps with environmental testing and investigations.

He thanked past administrations, former general managers, staff and management for their part in the agency's work.

He said the anniversary is a chance to celebrate what has been achieved and to commit to better environmental governance and pollution control across Lagos State.
