Two dubious men have been apprehended by men of the Nigerian police for depriving a man his money in a most fraudulent manner.
The Police in Ogun on Tuesday arraigned two persons: Olawuyi Oladapo, 40, and Iyabo Olateju, 35, before an Ota Magistrates' court for allegedly defrauding one Mr John Onoyivweta.
The accused are facing a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretext, conspiracy and defrauding. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on March 11, at Arepo area, Ijako in Ota.
She said that the accused and their accomplices, under false pretext, collected N900,000 from the complainant to sell a plot of land to him, an agreement they did not fulfil. Samson said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Magistrate, Miss Temitope Adebutu, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N300,000 each with one surety in the like sum. She said that the surety must be a worker resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
Adebutu ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and show evidence of one year’s tax clearance. She also said that the surety must show valid means of identification and should own developed property within the magisterial district. Adebutu said that the address of the surety should be verified by the police.
