According to a report by The PUNCH, there was tension in Orlu, Imo State, on Wednesday, after yet-to-be-identified gunmen beheaded a 70-year-old retired mechanic, Felix Okechukwu, popularly known as Akaonyewetere, in Okporo community, in the Orlu Local Government Area of the state.
The assailants also beheaded a palm wine tapper, Berechukwu Udemba.
After severing the heads, the gunmen reportedly paraded them at the community market at Orie Okporo.
A village source said, “They were killed in the early hours of today (Wednesday). They beheaded the two men and displayed their heads on a table at Ori Okporo market square. They beheaded Felix Okechukwu. He was about 70 years old. He was from Ududu village and was a retired mechanic.
“The second person, Berechukwu Udemba from Amanato-Okpuru community, was a palm wine tapper.
“They killed them in their various houses, brought their heads to Orie Okporo community and displayed them on a table. The families retrieved the severed heads from the market this morning.”
Our correspondent saw a video clip on social media showing the heads displayed on a table at the market square.
The reason for the killings had yet to be ascertained as of press time.
A spokesperson for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, said the police would investigate the incident.
