The PUNCH reports that a truck which fell on a bus on the Awka-Enugu Expressway in Anambra State on Friday killed a woman and injured many.
The crash which reportedly occurred at Amansea Junction by the Hausa market around 9am involved a commercial bus and an articulated truck.
A bystander said the victims were on the bus when the truck lost control and fell on it on a failed portion of the road.
He said, “The truck driver was heading to Enugu while the bus driver was going towards Awka. Due to a failed portion on the road, the truck fell on the bus, killing a woman and injuring many.”
The state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Adeoye Irelewuyi, while confirming the incident, said the body of the victim had been deposited at a morgue.
Commiserating with the victim’s family and wishing the injured quick recovery, Irelewuyi insisted that traffic rules and regulations must be obeyed at all times.
He said, “A fatal road traffic crash occurred at Amansea Junction, Hausa Market by Awka-Enugu Expressway. The crash was between a green Toyota Hiace bus with registration number: FGG88YG (Commercial) and an unidentified driver of a red Mercedes truck with no registration number (commercial).
“The probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to bad road. Seven people were involved in the crash, comprising six male adults and one female adult. The female adult lost her life, five were injured, while one came out unhurt.
“The corpse of the dead victim was taken to Amaku Mortuary Awka after being confirmed dead by a doctor on duty. The FRSC rescue team managed traffic and effort is being made to tow the vehicles off the road.”
