Daily Post reports that serious pandemonium broke out in Kakuri, Kaduna South Local Government area of Kaduna State on Thursday, as thugs suspected to belong to a popular opposition party snatched people’s phones, valuables in daylight.
A candidate of a popular opposition party, with his team of supporters numbering over 200, stormed the ever-busy Kachia road on a road show campaign, with thugs armed with cutlasses iron and dangerous weapons.
As they moved from Station Roundabout towards First Bank Kaduri, around 10.00am, on Thursday, the thugs, with their weapons, snatched ladies’ handbags, phones and other valuables.
Passers-by, commuters and several road users, upon seeing them, took to their heels.
Roadside hawkers, store owners and several motorists also ran for safety.
Mrs. Juliana, an eyewitness, told DAILY POST that when she saw them, she parked her car waiting for them to pass.
“But unfortunately, as they came closer, one of them trying to snatch the key of my car, incidentally, took my hand bag.
“I was speechless, for fear of being attacked, seeing that they all held dangerous weapons,” she said.
Also, a shoemaker, whose shop is by the roadside, said he quickly closed his shop, when he saw them far away.
Madam Grace, who sells provision direclty opposite First Bank, said she closed her shop as soon as she noticed a large crowd coming towards her direction.
Residents within Kakuri and its environs, who saw the display of lawlessness by the political thugs, blamed the aspirant for recruiting thugs into his campaign team.
According to Mr. Joshua Adaji, campaign is all about persuasion. He said there is no way a political aspirant will get it easily, using thugs with dangerous weapons in broad day light.
The Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige did not pick his phone for comments.
