The police in Kaduna Monday dislodged some bandits who laid an ambush on motorists along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highway.
They also recovered one AK47 rifle and four unregistered operational motorcycles from the bandits in a gun duel.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kaduna, ASP Jalige Mohammed, said the incident happened on Monday around 11:30am.
“The operatives of the Kaduna Police Command attached to Buruku Division while on routine patrol around Udawa along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road ran into an ambush by suspected bandits in their desperate mission to perpetrate a violent crime against the unsuspecting commuters.
“The police officers alongside vigilantes exhibited uncommon courage in returning fire with precision, which successfully countered the ambush as the bandits were forced to retreat with varying degrees of bullet wounds into the forest leaving behind one AK47 rifle as well four unregistered operational motorcycles.
“The said items were recovered to Buruku Police Station while effort is on to trace the whereabouts of the injured bandits to face justice,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Yekini A. Ayoku, in the statement called on the communities around the area to be watchful of any person(s) seen with a suspected bullet wound and report the same to the nearest security formation for prompt action.
