Dr Alex Otti, the Governor-elect of Abia State, has denied reports in the State that he initiated the freezing of the State’s bank accounts, Daily Post reports.
He described the reports as falsehoods aimed at misrepresenting him before the Abia general public.
Otti, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, blamed the reports on officials of the Abia State Government, insisting that he did not know the persons that obtained the court order freezing the bank accounts.
Ekeoma said, “Our attention has been drawn to all kinds of ridiculous publications and insinuations emanating from Abia state government, her allies, agents and Sycophants who are alleging that the Abia state Governor-Elect, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR was the one that authorised the freezing of the Accounts of Abia state government with some banks.
“Dr. Alex Otti was not involved, directly or indirectly, in freezing the said Abia State government accounts. He also does not know the person or persons behind the action.”
He argued that the Labour Party man could not take such legal action because the freezing of accounts could affect his administration from May 29.
Otti’s media adviser further alleged that there were attempts to evade payment of Abia civil servants’ salaries by the outgoing government.
It would be recalled that Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Abia, Barr Eze Chikamnayo, had on Sunday raised the alarm that there were attempts by some persons to cause civil unrest in the State.
This civil unrest, the Commissioner alleged, was hatched through an exparte order from an Abuja court purportedly freezing Abia State bank accounts.
The Commissioner described the said court order as ” Kangaroo and Jankara.”
