A man identified as Isyaku Ibrahim has been dragged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Maiduguri Zonal Command.

He was  arraigned before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court on a one-count amended charge of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N12 million.

The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a statement issued via its verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Ibrahim was charged with criminally misappropriating properties belonging to one late Muhammad Ishiyaku for his personal use, to the detriment of the deceased’s family.

The properties mentioned in the charge include three houses, two fenced lands, one of which has seven shops, two bread factories, one open land, two tanker trucks and one big installed generator, all valued at N12 million.

EFCC told the court that the “offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 308 and 309 of the Penal Code Law of Borno State (Cap. 102 Vol. 3 of 1994) respectively.”

However, the defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge.

Following a request by the prosecution counsel for the court to remand the defendant in prison custody until the next trial, Justice Fadawu remanded the defendant and adjourned till July 12 for the commencement of trial.
