It has been revealed that as many as 204 villagers have been killed between April and July this year.
An umbrella organization of the Mwaghavul ethic group, Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) gave the report of the killings in a press conference held at the NUJ secretariat Jos yesterday.
The National President of the association, Joseph Gwankat who read the text said, “once again, with a very heavy heart, address you today on the prevailing organised killings in our communities.
“Let us place it on record that on Wednesday 5th July, two women were attacked and killed in Mper and Millet in Kombun District.
“The following day Thursday, 6th July, 2023, there was an attack on Kogul and five persons were killed, thereafter, the attackers advanced on Niyes killing two persons.
“These callous and unwarranted killings infuriated the youths who spontaneously pursued the attackers in self-defence.”
Gwankat noted that the latest killings has made it 204 people killed and 53 villages raided.
“Our attackers are herders who want to turn out communities to grazing land for their herds.
“Mangu is the food basket of the state but these attacks have driven our people from the farms. Having been deprived of farming, the attacks still go from house to house killing our people.”
The association therefore called on the state and the federal government to put up necessary measures to protect the people of Mangu LGA.
