As many as ten rampaging gunmen have shot dead three members of Edo State Security Network (ESSN), who were on duty at Okhun in Ovia Northeast Local Government Area of Edo, The Nation reports.
It was gathered yesterday evening that the killings had to do with a fierce leadership tussle in the community and cult groups’ reprisal.
A member of ESSN, who simply identified himself as Commander Small Baba, disclosed that the security men moved in, when they got information that some hoodlums were shooting sporadically in the community.
He said: “We swung into action immediately we were informed, but we were attacked by the hoodlums on Thursday night. They killed three of my men in the process.
“I was also shot on my right hand by the hoodlums, but I managed to escape.”
Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwanbuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), stated that he had not been briefed by the area’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO), but promised to get the details.
It will be recalled that two persons were earlier killed in the same Okhun, which led to inter-cult war in Benin, and later led to the death of no fewer than ten persons.
