The governor, who doubles as the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, said the state has also provided food palliatives targeting 400,000 beneficiaries.
N10,000 transport allowance has been approved for workers by the Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
He gave the approval pending the determination of a new minimum wage.
Yahaya disclosed this on Sunday in his 63rd Independence Day message.
The governor, who doubles as the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, said the state has also provided food palliatives targeting 400,000 beneficiaries.
“Our administration has already approved N10,000 transport allowance to all workers in the state pending the determination of a new minimum wage. We have also provided palliative assistance under our food distribution programme, which targets 400,000 beneficiaries,” he said.
However, the approved figure is a reduced amount compared to the N35,000 approved for Federal Government workers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Nigeria’s minimum monthly wage approved in 2019 is N30,000; however, as headline inflation soared to 25.80 per cent in August 2023, worsened by fuel subsidy removal, the clamour for a new wage has heightened.
