The police has dispersed some women who stormed the Yenagoa, Bayelsa command headquarters to seek the resignation of the State Commissioner of Police, Tolani Alausa.

For the sake of neutrality, the female protestors demanded on Friday that Alausa be removed before the off-cycle governorship election on Saturday.

To guarantee a peaceful election, the women, dressed in black, requested that President Bola Tinubu and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun remove the CP.

However, the women’s unwillingness to leave the facility if their demands were not satisfied led to their dispersal using tear gas.

Shortly afterwards, an additional group of demonstrators approached the command centre to express their endorsement of the CP.

The women started the demonstration on Thursday at the police command headquarters and continued it on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ofem Arikpo told reporters that the CP cannot be removed because he hasn’t broken any laws.

“The CP cannot be eliminated at this time. Election day is tomorrow. What has the CP done to warrant his dismissal? He’s not voting; he’s just performing his job,” Arikpo said.

On November 7, Alausa was sent to the state and took up his position as the 36th commissioner of police.
