Two men have been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly locking up their 35-year-old cousin and starving him to death over witchcraft allegations.
Acting Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shettima Muhammad, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday, December 4, 2023, in Lafia.
Parading the suspects alongside 16 others, the CP said police received information on November 30, that the deceased, Mohammed Sani, had his hands and legs tied and locked away in his room where he was starved to death over allegation that he was a witch.
The police boss said the family hurriedly buried the remains of Sani to avoid suspicion.
He added that the two suspects already arrested denied their involvement, claiming that they only participated in the burial after discovering the decomposing body of Sani in his room.
“Based on credible information that one Mohammed Sani of Agyaragu Tofa was tied on both hands and legs and locked up in a room where he starved to death and was hurriedly buried by his family members on the allegation of witchcraft, police operatives attached to A Division, Lafia, swung into action and got Hassan Ismail and Mohammed Sani arrested. Efforts are ongoing to arrest all individuals involved in the dastardly act,” the Commissioner said.
