The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, in Katsina, has disclosed that it recaptured two awaiting trial inmates who escaped on October 17, 2023, from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in the state.
Following their escape, a joint effort involving various security agencies was swiftly launched to track down the fugitives.
A statement released on Wednesday by ASC Najibullah Idris, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina Command, disclosed that the first escapee, Ibrahim Muhammad Lawal, also known as Abba Kala, had been arrested earlier through the collaborative efforts of the search party.
He noted that NCoS took decisive measures, utilising both technological means like the e-tracking mechanism and a combination of overt and covert intelligence gathering to locate the second escapee, Musa Isah. Fortunately, the efforts culminated in the successful recapture of Isah in the Kaduna metropolis on December 19, 2023.
The Katsina State Command of NCoS emphasised that both escapees are now securely back in custody.
Controller General of Corrections Haliru Nababa expressed appreciation for the relentless efforts of the search team and affirmed the commitment of the correctional service to ensure the security of all custodial centres.
