A land dispute in Akpajo community, Eleme local government area of Rivers state, has reportedly resulted in the death of two individuals.
Rampaging youths, who were said to have clashed over land in the area, destroyed houses and looted shops of innocent residents of the area.
It was gathered that the crisis caused pandemonium in the area as the two groups fought with guns and other weapons.
A source in the community, who spoke in confidence, said others sustained various degrees of injuries.
He said: “This Friday afternoon some land grabbers invaded Akpajo and started claiming land and this results in shooting.
“Some people have left the community to safer areas. As we speak two person have been killed. A team of policemen even came.
“While the confusion was on some hoodlums looted shops while the owners had scampered for safety. That is all I can say for now. “
When contacted, spokesperson of the state Police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, but said only one person died during the incident.
She, however, said the State Commissioner of Police ordered the deployment of tactical teams to the area to restore peace.
She said: “The command is aware of the situation. One person died and and a full-scale investigation has commenced.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu has deployed Tactical Teams to the area and normalcy has been restored.
“As a matter of fact, people are going about their lawful businesses and activities in the area.”
