Police tactical unit attached to Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, have been applauded by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for refusing a ₦4 million bribe during the investigation of a drug peddling and ammunition possession case.
This was revealed by the Police Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
He explained that on February 6, 2024, the team apprehended Esther Newman Obiekezie, 42, also known as Candy, at her residence on No 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos.
The arrest yielded a significant quantity of a substance known as ICE, along with AK47 live ammunition.
Adejobi added that during the subsequent inquiry, Akete Esther, 43, and Oke Okebalam, 49, visited the Ijanikin police station, attempting to secure the release of Esther Newman Obiekezie.
He explained that they offered ₦4 million bribe and pleaded for an end to police interference in Esther’s illegal drug peddling business.
However, the police officer rejected the bribe, confiscated the cash, and marked it as evidence.
