Emeruwa explained that the action of the lawmakers was in line with the yearnings of the majority.
A law has been passed by the Abia State House of Assembly abolishing the Abia State Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s Pensions Law number 4 of 2021.
The Bill, which is known as ‘H.A.B 11: The Abia State Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s Pensions Law Repeal Bill 2024’, was sponsored by the Majority Leader and member representing Arochukwu constituency in the House, Mr Okoro Uchenna Kalu.
Announcing the passage of the bill, the Speaker of the Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa applauded his colleagues for their understanding and cooperation in repealing the Law.
Emeruwa explained that the action of the lawmakers was in line with the yearnings of the majority.
The sponsor of the Bill, Uchenna Okoro Kalu while moving the motion, said the Bill was timely as according to him, it will help reduce the cost of governance in the State, release funds that would be used in the development of the State for welfare of the greater majority of Abia people.
However, the details of funds involved in the repealed pension Laws were not disclosed by the House.
Meanwhile, the Abia State House of Assembly has also passed the Bill called ‘H.A.B 9: The Faith Based and Private Colleges of Nursing Sciences Establishment Bill 2024’ for a second reading.
The Bill, which was sponsored by the member representing Umuahia South constituency, Mr Emeka Obioma, was committed to the House Committee on Health, to conduct a public hearing and report back to the House.
The State House of Assembly further took and passed for first reading ‘HAB 10: Abia State Cocoa Development and Marketing Board Bill, 2024’ sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Austin Meregini.
