On Tuesday morning, some youths reportedly set fire to a poultry farm in Etoo Baba community located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. This act was purportedly in response to the alleged killing of a security guard employed by the farm.
The PUNCH reports that the youths also looted birds in the farm before setting it ablaze.
A resident, Mr Paul Alhassan, who confirmed the incident to City & Crime, said the action of the youths generated tension within and outside the community.
He said, “The fire burnt everything, including the cars parked in the farmer’s compound, and spread to another building in the neighborhood.
“From what I heard, the youths were angry because a security man working in the farm was killed after he was accused of stealing eggs from the farm.
“It was the owner’s son who was alleged to have killed the security guard. The son, who had been suspecting the security guard of stealing, was said to have caught him red-handed and started beating him and in the process the guard collapsed and died.
“Meanwhile, men of the fire service arrived and fought the fire.”
There was no response from the police at the time of filing this report.
