A BBC top presenter was left embarrassed after wetting himself during a live broadcast but fought well to keep a good face.

Mike Bushell was left embarrassed after the on-air disaster

BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell suffered an on-air disaster this morning when he not only ripped his trousers but looked like he had wet himself live on TV, The Sun reports.

The on-air disaster left viewers stunned. However, an embarrassed Mike proved he was a true professional and that the show must go on.

The hiccup was caused when he was adjusting his talk back pack while standing next to a series of glasses, which had been set up for an experiment analysing the taste of water from different regions of the country.

His co-host Charlie Stayt couldn’t help but comment on the wet patch – leaving Sally Nugent smirking and embarrassed Mike having to explain himself.

He told them: "I'm sorry because you were trying to do a serious interview - but I was doing this water experiment. Without going into too much detail, I was changing my talk back pack and it’s a little dark in that side of the studio so I accidentally dropped it onto the glasses and then they went everywhere!

"The batteries fell in and now there is a lot of water on my trousers!”

Things got even worse though when he ended up splitting his trousers in the process.

"I think this suit may be going to the tip now. even though it's quite new. In the shock of the water incident, I split my trousers, too,” he admitted.

Amused Sally confessed: "Mike, actually I can tell you that I noticed your trousers were already split. "I was going to mention it after the programme but as we're talking about it now..."

Those watching the show found the whole thing very amusing and took to Twitter to comment on what has been dubbed “Watergate”.
“@mikebreakfast well done for carrying on with such cheer despite #watergate!” wrote one impressed viewer.

Another added: “@mikebreakfast thanks for the laughs this morning... Perked up the start of the day!”

While someone else wrote: “Is anyone having a worse morning than @mikebreakfast's trousers? #wet #ripped”
