Senator Sahabi Ya'u Kaura has won the All Progressives Congress primary for Zamfara North Senatorial District, paving the way for him to contest the seat in the 2027 general election.
The party's fresh primary was held on Monday.
Ya'u polled 49,176 votes.
His closest rival, Tijjani Kaura, got 9,628 votes, while Abdullahi Sani Shinkafi came third with 6,206.
Dr Auwal Aliyu, chairman of the APC Zamfara North Senatorial District Primary Election Committee, announced the result.
He said the exercise followed the law and the party's guidelines.
Ya'u won in all four local government areas of the district.
He got 21,689 votes in Kaura Namoda, 19,017 in Zurmi, 3,815 in Shinkafi and 4,655 in Birnin Magaji.
Tijjani Kaura trailed in each area, with 6,586 votes in Kaura Namoda, 280 in Zurmi, 2,087 in Shinkafi and 675 in Birnin Magaji.
Shinkafi recorded 150 votes in Kaura Namoda, 386 in Zurmi, 1,208 in Shinkafi and 858 in Birnin Magaji.
The fresh contest came about after Shinkafi went to court over alleged irregularities in the party's earlier senatorial primary.
The Court of Appeal in Sokoto upheld the order for a fresh primary, which led to Monday's exercise.
