The dead body of an alleged bandit has been discovered in an unfinished building at Kurutu village, situated in Kaduna State's Kachia Local Government Area.
City & Crime had reported that troops raided bandits’ hideout at Kurutu forest, which led to the killing of three bandits while several others fled into different directions following a heavy gun battle between the troops and bandits in the area on Saturday.
A community leader in the area who preferred anonymity told Daily Trust reporter through telephone on Wednesday that the corpse was found on Tuesday at an uncompleted building at the back of the village.
He said the corpse was discovered by a resident of the village simply identified as Nasiru, who immediately raised the alarm.
According to him, some of the villagers mobilised themselves in numbers to the scene where the corpse was found, even as he said some angry mob went and set the corpse ablaze.
“It was one of the villagers who discovered the corpse that came to inform me, and I personally joined some residents to the uncompleted building, where the corpse was found,” he said.
The community, however, said the suspected bandits’ corpse was later set ablaze by some angry mob in the area, adding that it was riddled with bullets.
“Actually, when I visited the scene, I noticed that the corpse was riddled with bullet wounds, so I suspected that he might have sustained injuries during the exchange of fire with troops,” he added.
The spokesperson of the Kaduna State police command, ASP Hassan Mansur, was yet to confirm the incident at the time of filling this report.
