Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque in Plateau State, is dead.
The sad development was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday by the deceased cleric’s son, Bashir Lawal Adam.
Adam stated that his father passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Jos following a brief illness.
He mentioned that the late Islamic cleric, who was 80 years old at the time of his death, was survived by three wives and 14 children, along with many grandchildren.
The Plateau State Publicity Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Sani Mudi, has described the cleric’s death as a significant loss for the Muslim community in the state.
In a condolence message on Thursday, Mudi said, “The late Sheikh Adam was an erudite scholar, Islamic jurist, renowned Qur’anic scholar, and a respected leader of the Muslim community. He was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in 2009 and later Chief Imam in 2015.”
The statement further noted that the reverend cleric would be laid to rest on Friday morning after funeral prayers.
