Vice President, Shettima Hosts UN Delegates In Abuja (Photos)

The UN delegation was said to have visited Nigeria to strengthen democracy and promote partnerships in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Kashim Shettima, the Vice President of NIgeria, has received a delegation of the United Nations led by its Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, at the State House, Abuja. 

The UN delegation was said to have visited Nigeria to strengthen democracy and promote partnerships in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).  

The visit was disclosed in a post by the Vice President's Media Aide, Stanley Nkwocha, on Saturday, July 27.

The post reads: "Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday received the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, and her team at the State House, Abuja. 

"The UN delegation is in Nigeria as part of a region-wide consultation aimed at strengthening democracy and promoting partnerships in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). 

"While commending the UN delegation for its efforts in addressing the world's problems, the Vice President specifically requested UNICEF to scale up nutrition interventions in the North-Western states of Sokoto and Zamfara, which have significantly high incidences of severe acute malnutrition. 

"Members of the delegation included the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Simão; United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall; Director for the Political Unit, Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG), Ciru Mwaura; and Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary-General, Hadiza Elayo."
