Gov Usman Ododo
Gov Usman Ododo of Kogi state has suspended all mining activities within the state due to the high rate of criminalities in mining-related activities.
The state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, in an interview with journalists, said the decision to suspend mining activities was reached at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday presided over by Governor Ododo.
Gegu said the state Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal mining activities.
He said, “This is to enable the state to have genuine mining data. A total clean-up of the sector will go a long way in minimising or eradicating criminalities in totality.
“The state will work by the rules of the games and will collaborate with the Federal Mines Officers and the security agencies.
“The state will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal activities.
“We implore all mining companies to bear with the state in these circumstances because we must curb insecurity.”
