A woman has been charged for attempted murder after leaving her newborn baby in a drain in Australia. According to Sky News, the mother, aged 30, placed her baby in a drain and left it there for days.
The baby was found by a group of cyclists who were riding by and heard the baby crying. The strangers worked to lift the concrete drain cover, where they found the infant wrapped in a blanket at the bottom.
The cyclists first thought that the noise they were hearing was a kitten. “We actually thought it was a kitten at first, but when we went down there we could hear exactly what it was — you could definitely tell it was a baby screaming,” said cyclist David Otte to The Daily Telegraph.
