The youths, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and daggers, beat Ezigbo mercilessly, their cutlasses slicing through the air, leaving him battered and bloodied.

Kalu Achi Ezigbo

The family of Kalu Achi Ezigbo in Abia State remains in shock following a vicious attack that left him severely beaten and bloodied.

According to SaharaReporters, it was learnt that the incident occurred on June 12, 2025, when a group of irate youths descended on Ezigbo's home like a pack of wolves, fuelled by a toxic mix of anger and ambition.

"The attack was so barbaric and they have conspired to suppress the case,"
said Mrs. Patience Emeka Ukpai, Ezigbo's younger sister, who spoke with SaharaReporters on Saturday in a trembling voice.

"My brother was brutally attacked by over 30 men, leaving him severely injured. We're still trying to come to terms with what happened."

The youths, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and daggers, beat Ezigbo mercilessly, their cutlasses slicing through the air, leaving him battered and bloodied.

As he lay unconscious, the youths callously contacted one of their leaders and the alleged sponsor, Mr. Ezeodum Amaogu, to gloat over their victim's fate.

Amaogu's response was chilling - "Take him to the police station," showing the conspiracy with the authority. But the police, bound by their duty to uphold justice, rejected Ezigbo, citing his critical condition.

The youths, undeterred, took him to a local clinic, only to be turned away, and eventually deposited him at the C.P.S. Police Clinic in Umuahia, like a discarded piece of humanity.

Since Ezigbo left the police clinic, his whereabouts have remained a mystery.

"The truth about the victim, my elder brother is that he has not been seen after he left the police clinic and in my view and thinking they may have hidden him because he is a powerful evidence against his assailants,"
Ukpai said, her voice laced with desperation.

The family is worried that Ezigbo's disappearance may be linked to the alleged conspiracy.

"We have lost faith in Zone 9 because they are in parley with the sponsors of this terror," Ukpai said. "We've been forced to withdraw the case, but we're not going to do that. We demand justice for my brother."

The attack is reportedly linked to a longstanding chieftaincy dispute in the community. The dispute reportedly began in 2020 when a king was installed, but the community's elites opposed him and installed another person as king outside the community.

The youths resisted the new king, leading to a riot that resulted in death of one.

The petition filed with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9 Police Headquarters, Umuahia, alleged a sinister plot by Amaogu and four others to silence Ezigbo over a traditional leadership dispute. The community, once a peaceful haven, is now gripped by fear and outrage.

The people of Okagwe Ohafia demand justice for Ezigbo and an end to the violence that has shattered their lives.

"We want the authorities to take action," Ukpai said. "We want the perpetrators brought to justice, and we want peace to return to our community."

The family is determined to seek justice, despite the challenges they face.

"We're not going to give up," Ukpai said. "We'll keep fighting until my brother is safe and the perpetrators are brought to justice."

The incident has exposed the dark underbelly of power struggles and the devastating consequences of unchecked ambition. As the authorities investigate the allegations, the people of Okagwe Ohafia demand justice and an end to the violence that has plagued their community.

The fate of Kalu Achi Ezigbo remains unknown, but his family's determination to seek justice will not waver. The community may be gripped by fear, but they will not be silenced. The cry for justice will echo through the streets of Okagwe Ohafia until the truth is revealed, and those responsible are held accountable.

Meanwhile SaharaReporters' efforts to speak with SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 9 were unsuccessful as he did not take his calls or respond to a text message seeking his comment.
