The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious gang of vehicle vandals allegedly led by Jude Onuoha, who is said to have posed as a security officer.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the gang, led by 46-year-old Onuoha, was said to specialise in infiltrating residential estates across the state by disguising as security personnel.

According to the statement, the suspects wore fake uniforms of a security outfit and used a modified Mercedes car jack, designed to resemble a firearm, to intimidate and deceive residents and estate security guards.

“Under the guise of conducting security checks, the gang gained access to several estates. Once inside, they focused on high-end vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs.

"Their operation involved systematically dismantling the vehicles and carting away costly parts, including brainboxes, tapping glasses, wiring systems, side mirrors, and control devices,” the statement read.

Oluseyi noted that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang and their accomplices, assuring that they would be brought to justice.

He urged estate managers, residents, and private security guards to remain vigilant and avoid granting unrestricted access to people presenting themselves as security operatives without proper verification.

“In addition to basic checks, residents should liaise with the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in their area to confirm the authenticity of any security personnel requesting entry into their estates. Where there is doubt, such persons must immediately be referred to the nearest police division,” Oluseyi advised.
