A man was br#tally @ssaulted by a group of unidentified individuals in Onitsha, Anambra State, after being accused of st£aling money, in what human rights advocates have condemned as an act of jungle justice.
In a video circulating on social media, the victim could be seen repeatedly swearing on the lives of his mother and siblings that he was innocent and had not taken any money.
The Chairman of the Human Rights Defenders, HURIDE, Ebonyi State chapter, Sampson Iko Nweke, who reacted to the incident, confirmed that it was later established that the man was indeed innocent.
Condemning the @ttack in strong terms, Nweke described it as a grave violation of the victim's fundamental rights, stressing that no one should be subjected to such treatment on the basis of an unverified allegation.
He urged the victim to seek legal redress and appealed to anyone who knows him to assist him in pursuing justice.
