Taraba Community

Tension enveloped the Rafin-Kada community in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State on Wednesday as women and children staged a protest following the k!lling of two young men by suspected militia.

The peaceful demonstration saw protesters, mostly women and children, blocking major roads in the town with placards and chanting solidarity songs, demanding justice and immediate government intervention.

The protesters decried the persistent insecurity along the Wukari–Rafin-Kada road, a route they say has become increasingly dangerous, with repeated attacks claiming numerous lives in recent months.

Eyewitnesses said the demonstrators vowed not to vacate the roads until authorities respond with concrete actions to protect residents and commuters from further violence.

Community leaders also raised concerns, urging security agencies to swiftly intervene and restore peace to the area.

They appealed to both the Taraba State Government and the Federal Government to act decisively to curb the recurring attacks.

The protest followed the k!lling of two young men, identified as Basho Ahmadu Danpada and Lemurga Danladi, who were reportedly ambushed and dragged into the bush by gunmen while traveling from Rafin-Kada to Wukari on Tuesday evening. Both were later found shot dead.

The incident, as observed by our reporter, has reignited long-standing tensions in the area and added to growing public frustration over the government’s handling of security in southern Taraba.
