According to him, even within Africa, he had faced harassment and unnecessary questioning over his Nigerian passport.
Popular Nigerian travel filmmaker Tayo Aina has revealed why he spent a staggering $150,000 to get a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport.
Speaking on the Podcast, "Am I too loud?', he revealed that being denied a visa twice while trying to attend a major creators’ conference in Dubai, despite having visited the country before prompted his decision.
“I was invited as a speaker alongside big creators like Casey Neistat at the NAS Summit. I’d been to Dubai twice before, but they denied me twice — just because I was Nigerian,” he said.
The YouTuber shared that it wasn’t his first encounter with travel restrictions. Even within Africa, he had faced harassment and unnecessary questioning over his Nigerian passport.
“I’ve had issues in Ethiopia, South Africa… they’ve either held my passport or denied me entry. But that Dubai experience broke me,” he admitted.
For Tayo, missing out on that global opportunity was the final straw. It was then he made up his mind to buy freedom.
“That day I told myself — never again. My biggest goal in life is freedom. Freedom to be wherever I want, whenever I want, with whoever I want,” he explained.
That pursuit led him to save up $150,000 and acquire a Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship, one of the world’s most sought-after second passports that offers visa-free access to over 150 countries.
“I just saved up and bought the passport. That decision changed everything for me,” Tayo added.
